Flex Your Joy Muscles Denim Colored T-Shirt
About the design:
This design was originally used to tell a story on Instagram but we have now made it a t-shirt. Here is the caption that originally came with the Instagram post.
I woke up in a bad mood yesterday. Our A/C still wasn't working, our house feels like it's in disarray, and I woke up with a headache - which is just the worst.
But I got out of bed and went to my spot out back to have my quiet time, which felt more like complaining-headache-time. There was no "Jesus wind" blowing my Bible to the perfect page as a beam of the sun shown through the clouds, and a dove landed gently on my shoulder. (Which is how I feel my quiet time should be, but honestly, a bird landing on my shoulder would probably scare the crap out of me.. 😂
When Brooke woke up, I told her how I was feeling and then decided I needed a reset. A "reset" is something we do with our kids; we tell them to go in their room even if it's for five seconds, shake it out and come back out. For those of you old enough to remember Nintendo or Super Nintendo, it's the human equivalent of blowing on the game and putting it back in the console.
So, I took a reset walk on the beach.
After my beach walk, I came back to a warm house with no A/C, kids who are kids, and a life that will bring its share of frustration, but the reset worked, and I was ready to choose joy for the rest of the day.
I've learned that if I spend some quiet time with the Lord and move my body by working out, the frustrating things in life seem a lot smaller.
I also make it a point to try and flex my "joy muscle" every chance I get. I want to be the Arnold Schwarzenegger of joy muscles, so I try to work them out in all things. I praise God daily for all the good in my life. I make it a point to verbally acknowledge the good things in Brooke, the girls, the food we eat, the things we do, the songs we listen to, the jokes we tell, etc. I flex those joy muscles as often as I can, and because of that, a bad, sweaty morning with no A/C and a side of headache doesn't wreck my entire day.
So, if you find that you struggle to choose joy in all things, start flexing that muscle daily - even in the tiniest of things. That way, when those hard things come, your reset can be quick, and your "joy muscle memory" can catch you before you spiral or say something hurtful to someone you love.
